Waitrose to launch first cashless store

Endaba Group

Waitrose are to become the first UK supermarket to open an entirely cashless store. The store will be introduced in Sky’s flagship head office, and despite it standing as Waitrose’s smallest store, it will cater to over Sky 3,500 staff. The store is due to be completed this summer and it is the first to open in a workplace campus in almost 20 years. The Sky employees will only be able to pay using one of the 5 self-service checkouts using card or mobile. Waitrose Director, Convenience, Jackie Wharton says “our convenience model is now more flexible than ever, especially as payment methods and ranges continue to evolve, so we’ll look at exploring other opportunities like this in the future.” If Waitrose see success in their cashless store, then this could set an entirely new form of cashless shopping for brands!
