When Lord Burns steps down early next year, Waitrose CEO Mark Price is set to become the interim Chairman, according to Sky News. Price is already Deputy Chair at the broadcaster has been since July 2013. He is also the Deputy Chairman of John Lewis Partnership. Ofcom reportedly recommended a extension to Lord Burns’ chairmanship when his term expires in four months’ time, however, this was rejected by ministers, as they are eager to explore a sale of Channel 4. It is understood that due to Price’s other commitments, he will unlikely take on the Chair role at Channel 4 full time. However, his role as interim Chair can be seen as a back up measure, as it is uncertain when they will find a replacement for Lord Burns. Ofcom is hopeful, wanting to appoint a successor before Burns steps down in January next year.
