supermarkets urged to reveal results of contamination tests

Consumer group Which? says it will help stamp out the main cause of food poisoning in the UK, campylobacter. Which? has urged 10 leading grocers, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda to take greater responsibility for the testing of the bug. The Food Standards Agency has recently stopped measuring levels of the bacterium found in chicken, despite the bug being responsible for more than 280,000 cases of food poisoning and around 100 deaths in the UK every year! Which? claim despite grocers carrying out their own tests, levels still pose a significant risk to the public
