In June the US retailer announced its plans to axe around 250 head office roles, which were thought to be primarily in North America, however, the UK cuts go deeper than first thought. It’s estimated by a recruitment source that roughly a third of the London-based merchandising and distribution team are under review (around 12 out of 34 roles). Gap has refuted this figure, but have not provided an alternative. Another has speculated that Gap has been reviewing some of its UK buying roles.
A spokeswoman has added, ” We remain committed to bringing American style across the globe, that includes Europe and Asia…While some of the positions in the London office are currently under review, many employees will remain in the London office and some will have the opportunity to relocate to our headquarter office in New York.”
Also in June, it was revealed that Banana Republic, Clothing and Accessories retailer owned by Gap, were shifting an undisclosed number of product and supporting job roles from its London office to Gap’s global headquarters in San Francisco.
