Facebook has updated its suicide prevention tools, making it available to all of its 1.65 billion monthly active users worldwide. Users can flag their friend’s posts if they believe them to be in danger of self-harm or even suicide. Facebook will suggest resources that can be sent to the user or shared anonymously, or will suggest wording of a message of support. The tools have been developed in collaboration with mental health organisations and people with personal experience of mental health issues. Suicide is an important and pressing issue as suicide rates in the US are at highest in 3 decades!
