Asda poaches new Chief Operating Officer from Sainsbury’s

Endaba Group

Roger Burnley, Sainsbury’s Retail and Operations Director, has been appointed Asda’s new Chief Operating Officer. He will be joining Asda next year, as he is coming from a competitor. Asda began their search for a Chief Operating Officer back in January. The industry sees Burnley’s appointment as putting him in line to succeed Andy Clarke as Chief Executive. He has worked with Clarke at Matalan and at Asda. Clarke is  “looking forward to working with him again, this time as [his] deputy” and believes his addition to “Asda’s executive team further strengthens the board”.

Burnley previously worked at Asda from 1996 and 2002, most recently as Supply Chain Director and Asda said he was “part of the core team responsible for integrating Asda into Walmart following the acquisition in 1999”.
