Retailers are struggling to compete against the growing sales in electronics and experiences, yet are they neglecting an emerging sector; plus size? US sales of women’s plus size apparel rose by 17% in 2016 and overall apparel by only 7%! Analysts believe plus size sales could be even higher if retailers fully embraced the category. Yet CEO of plus-size retailer Lane Bryant claims factories in China, Vietnam and Bangladesh are not set up to make clothing in larger sizes and shifting is costly. Plus size is a rapidly growing market and is certainly giving retailers something to think about!
