Aldi reveals its ambitious £600m expansion plan

Aldi is preparing an ambitious expansion plan, whereby it inputs £600m into its UK business to double its workforce and build new stores. The discount grocer wants to make 35,000 new hires by 2022 in an attempt to lay the foundations for the next generation of growth. Aldi currently has 27,000 employees in the UK. It also wants to open 130 new stores in the following two years so that by 2022, it could nearly double its 560 store portfolio to 1000. This year it overtook Waitrose to become Britain’s sixth biggest supermarket.

Aldi revealed their plans one year before the Rio 2016 Olympic games. Earlier this year in March, Aldi became the first ever supermarket partner for Team GB. To denote the importance of their partnership, six Team GB athletes are now the faces of Aldi’s campaign. It’s a very exciting time for Aldi!
